KATSEYE’s Yoonchae’s ‘snatched’ look is not a technique that physically lifts the face, but makeup that changes the placement of light and shadow. On camera, it can make the center of the face appear farther forward and the bridge of the nose and outer contours appear farther back, but the volume of the muscles, subcutaneous fat, and skin laxity remain unchanged.
In a Vogue ‘Beauty Secrets’ video released on September 30, 2026, Yoonchae showed her skincare and makeup routine herself.[1] According to a Vogue article published on October 5, she explained that she brightens the center of her face by applying concealer in an inverted triangle beneath the eyes, then adds powder contour to the inner corners of the eyes, the bridge of the nose, and the tip of the nose to look more defined, particularly on camera.[2] These disclosures concern makeup and do not constitute evidence that Yoonchae has undergone any dermatological procedure.

What does ‘snatched’ makeup make appear different about the face?
Bright concealer reduces shadows beneath the eyes and across the midface, making the center of the face appear farther forward. Dark powder along both sides of the bridge and at the tip of the nose makes its contours appear narrower. Used together, these techniques create the impression of a bright center and more defined outer contours, even though the actual measurements do not change.
The fact that Yoonchae has said she leaves out aegyo-sal, or under-eye volume, on stage also offers a clue.[2] The light and dark lines of aegyo-sal emphasize volume beneath the eyes, creating a cute and approachable impression. Contouring, then, is not a single answer to creating a ‘more beautiful face,’ but a form of visual design tailored to the stage concept and the distance of the lens.
What should you distinguish first when a makeup look cannot conceal the face shape?
If it bulges when you clench your jaw, it is muscle
If a firm area rises when you touch the corner of the lower jaw and gently clench your teeth, the masseter—the chewing muscle—is likely a major factor. In this case, repeatedly using lifting devices that pull the skin taut may leave the cause of the facial width unchanged. General dermatology clinics may consider masseter botulinum toxin, but the potential for reduced chewing strength, asymmetry, and hollowing of the cheeks should also be weighed.
If it folds when you bend your head, it is fat
If the soft thickness beneath the chin folds depending on posture, the proportion of subcutaneous fat should be considered. Even at a normal weight, submental fat may remain because of anatomical structure. Seolreim Clinic currently provides information on ONDA lifting, which targets the subcutaneous fat layer with a 7 mm handpiece.[3] This page confirms that the service is offered; it is not independent clinical evidence guaranteeing individual results.
If the jawline becomes defined only when lifted by hand, it is skin laxity
If the jawline becomes more defined when the skin is gently pulled upward, the contribution of reduced elasticity should be assessed. Seolreim Clinic offers ultrasound-based Ultherapy and radiofrequency-based Oligio.[4][5] Ultherapy is described as creating thermal coagulation points in deeper layers, while Oligio is described as delivering heat to the dermis. They are not the same procedure under different names.
What order should you follow at home to define the face shape?
First, as Yoonchae does, brighten the center of the face, but use concealer over a thin inverted-triangle area rather than across the entire under-eye region. Second, apply only a very small amount of contour to the inner sides of the nose and beneath the jawline, then blend until no edge is visible. Third, take front-facing and 45-degree photos under the same lighting and from the same distance, and compare the results before and after makeup.
Strong gua sha or repeated facial massage does not melt fat or permanently lift the skin. Temporary changes in swelling must be distinguished from structural changes. Morning puffiness caused by lack of sleep or salty food should be reassessed after several days of lifestyle adjustments. If asymmetry, a lump, or pain persists for more than a month, diagnosis should come before cosmetic treatment.
Why is it risky to try to solve everything with ‘one device’?
The face shape is formed by overlapping muscle, fat, and skin. Using a fat-reduction device too aggressively on a face with little fat can make cheek hollowing more pronounced. Applying high thermal energy uniformly to someone with thin skin requires consideration of the risks of pain, burns, and fat atrophy. Conversely, if the jaw muscles are the main cause, choosing only a skin-tightening device may produce limited change.
Before treatment, take separate photos with a neutral expression and with your teeth clenched, and assess the thickness beneath the chin and the mobility of the skin separately. In consultation, describing observations such as ‘my lower jaw looks wider when I clench my teeth,’ ‘the area beneath my chin folds when I bend my head,’ or ‘the line appears when I lift my skin’ makes the goal clearer than simply saying, ‘My face looks large.’
Frequently asked questions
Q. If I contour every day, will my actual face shape change?
No. Makeup changes the contrast of light and disappears when washed off. It can, however, be useful as a test to distinguish whether the change you need is shading around the nose or elasticity along the jawline.
Q. Is it better to combine Ultherapy and Oligio?
Not necessarily. The target layer and amount of facial fat differ, and one treatment may be sufficient. Before considering whether to combine them on the same day, first confirm which layer is being treated and why, along with the expected recovery, pain, and risk of overcorrection.
Dr. Kang Jung-ha’s recommendation
For the first two weeks, distinguish the cause through makeup and lifestyle observation. ① Under the same lighting, compare photos after changing only the brightness at the center and the shading along the outer contours; ② if morning puffiness is pronounced, keep your sleep schedule consistent and reduce salty foods late at night; and ③ stop vigorous facial massage.
The first treatment priority is a standalone treatment suited to the cause. If the masseter is large when the teeth are clenched, consider masseter botulinum toxin at a general dermatology clinic, while receiving an explanation of possible reduced chewing strength and cheek hollowing. If skin laxity is the primary cause, choose either deeper-layer Ultherapy or dermal radiofrequency Oligio first. Confirm the possibilities of pain, swelling, temporary sensory changes, and, rarely, burns and fat atrophy; do not automatically combine two devices in a single session.
Only when localized fat beneath the chin is clearly present should a fat-layer-targeting device such as ONDA lifting be considered as a second priority. It is not a priority for a face with little fat and hollow cheeks. Reassess after 8–12 weeks under the same photographic conditions, and add another treatment only if the remaining issue lies in a different layer. As with Yoonchae’s contour, testing first with light and choosing treatments one structural layer at a time is the most natural approach.
